New Delhi, Dec 21 (ANI): The Delhi Police on Friday submitted a status report to the High Court on the probe so far into the gang-rape case in the national capital, which has shaken the whole country.

Earlier in the day, Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde assured that the government would take more stringent action in this case.

"We have taken strict measures. We will take more strict actions," he told mediapersons here.

A Parliamentary Panel on Home has summoned Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar on December 27 in connection with the gang-rape case.

Meanwhile, the massive outrage and anger over the brutal rape of a 23-year-old girl in a moving bus reached its peak in the national capital with scores of agitated women and students breaching the security and protesting outside the Rashtrapati Bhavan here.

The student protestors, who formed a human chain from Rail Bhavan to the Rashtrapati Bhavan, broke through the security cordon and reached the Rashtrapati Bhavan demanding justice for the victim and stronger action against those indulging in similar crimes.

The protestors, who began their march from Rajpath, went past the barricades erected at the entrance of Raisina Hill and moved towards Rashtrapati Bhavan and South and North Blocks.

Security personnel, however, managed to hold back many of the protestors demanding stringent action against rapists at the gate.

A similar protest is being held outside the Safdarjung hospital here where the victim is admitted and is in a critical condition.

The police have detained the fifth accused in connection with the heinous incident in a late night raid on Thursday.

The police detained the fifth accused, named Raju, in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh.

Of the four men arrested earlier, one, named Mukesh, was identified yesterday by the victim's male friend who was accompanying her on the fateful night and too was beaten on his head with an iron rod several times.

The young man reportedly took a minute to identify the accused out of 11 men who were brought in front of him at Tihar Jail yesterday.

Mukesh is the brother of Ram Singh, the driver of the bus, who is also in custody.

The girl, who was gang-raped and attacked with an iron rod, has lost most of her intestine after doctors performed an elective abdominal surgery on her and removed her gangrenous small intestine. . (ANI)
