New Delhi, Dec.19 (ANI): The parents of the unnamed 23-year-old woman who was gang raped late at night on December 16 have demanded that the perpetrators be hanged without delay.
Though the rape victim continues to be unnamed, her parents are reported to have told Union Minister for Women and Child Development Krishna Tirath on Wednesday that the attackers should be hanged without delay.
The victim, who was gang-raped for almost 40 minutes as per televison channel reports, continues to be under emergency care at the Safdarjang Hospital.
Tirath reportedly said the victim's parents want death for the rapists.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today described the gang-rape of the woman as "a heinous crime," and added it was "very upsetting".
The Prime Minister also directed Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde to bring the culprits to book at the earliest and to ensure that such incidents are not repeated.
The 23-year-old girl continues to battle for her life at the Safdarjung Hospital. Doctors today performed a second surgery on her.
The doctors are battling the onset of septicaemia - a systemic infection, usually caused by bacteria of various types contaminating a person's blood.
In the raped girl's case, Septicemia may have been caused due to the infected cuts that she was inflicted with.
The next 24 hours are critical for the girl; if she pulls through, her chances of survival will improve. (ANI)
