Himachal Pradesh,Immigration/Law/Rights, Tue, 18 Dec 2012 IANS

Shimla, Dec 18 (IANS) The Himachal Pradesh High Court has sought information from the government on steps taken for providing equal opportunity to the disabled.

The court was hearing a petition filed by Ajai Srivastav on the inadequate implementation of the provisions of the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act of 1995 by the state.

"We are of the view that the state should address the issues as required under the act. A committee headed by the chief secretary should look into all the issues in a coordinated manner," Chief Justice Kurian Joseph and Justice Sanjay Karol said in an order made available Tuesday.

The court, while listing the matter for next hearing Jan 1, asked the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education and Himachal Pradesh University to file affidavits within three weeks with respect to their obligations under the act.
