Ahmedabad, Dec. 17 (ANI): After a record 70 percent voting in the first phase, around 69 to 70 percent polling was recorded in the second and last phase of the Gujarat assembly elections on Monday.
Confident of returning to power for the third consecutive time, Chief Minister Narendra Modi exercised his franchise at Nishan High School in Ranip here and said: "People of the state will once again vote the BJP to power, their sentiment is giving a clear indication of this."
Senior BJP leader L K Advani and Arun Jaitley cast their rights this morning.
Jagruti Pandya, wife of slain the leader Congress leader Haren Pandya, Shweta Bhatt, the Congress candidate contesting against Modi, also exercised their rights this morning.
Former Chief Minister Shankersinh Vaghela, his son Mahendra Vaghela, former state Congress president Siddharth Patel, BJP states spokesperson and health minister Jaynarayan Vyas, MoS for industry Saurabh Patel and controversial former MoS for Home Amit Shah, are among the prominent candidates in this phase.
Out of a total 820 candidates, 49 are females. The BJP is contesting all 95 seats, while the Congress is contesting 92, Gujarat Parivartan Party (GPP) and Bahujan Samaaj Party (BSP) 84 seats each.
Voting began at 8 a.m. in 23,318 polling stations. An electorate of 19.8 million exercised their franchise. About 54 percent voter polling across 95 constituencies till 3 p.m.was recorded today. (ANI)
