New Delhi, Dec 17 (IANS) The air forces chiefs of India and Myanmar have discussed "bilateral defence cooperation", Indian Defence Minister A.K. Antony said Monday.
"Defence cooperation and exchanges with Myanmar are being pursued within the framework of close and friendly relations between both countries," the minister told the Lok Sabha.
He said in a written statement that the Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal N.A.K. Browne, visited Myanmar Nov 26-30 in his capacity as chairman of the Chief of Staff Committee.
Antony said Browne held discussions with his counterpart and other officials and leaders of Myanmar "on defence and security matters".
"Bilateral defence cooperation between the armed forces of both sides, including in the areas of military education and training, was also discussed," he said.
But the minister denied that a Memorandum of Understanding was signed with Myanmar "to strengthen military between the two countries".
