London, Dec. 16 (ANI): Olympic gold medallist Jessica Ennis has revealed that her Jamaican dad Vinnie was once refused to buy a house in Britain because of his color.
Though she says she never experienced any prejudice growing up as a mixed race girl in the UK, she said that her dad was once subjected to racism.
"They were different times, and I know he suffered from some racism. He doesn't talk about it much - he's not that sort of guy. But he once went to buy a house and couldn't because the owner didn't fancy selling to a black guy," The Sun quoted Ennis, as saying.
"That was a long time ago. I think the country has moved on a lot since the Sixties. I can't imagine him facing prejudice like that now," she added.
However, she admits how thrilling her life has been since she transformed from being a sports superstar to national heroine to symbol of modern Britain.
"It's been insane. Good insane, but insane. Since the Games I've been busier and had more on than ever. You'd think that all the hours would be spent leading up to the Games - training, organising and getting ready - then you'd get a break afterwards," Ennis said.
"Time to put your feet up and eat chocolate. Ummm - it hasn't quite happened like that. I'm busier than ever and keep being called to talk about things and meet people," she added. (ANI)
