India marks the 41st anniversary of its victory over Pakistan resulting the liberation of East Pakistan now called Bangladesh across the country on Sunday.
Every year on December 16, India celebrates this day as 'Vijay Diwas'. As much as 93,000 Pakistani troops led by Lt. General Amir Aabdullah Khan Niazi surrendered to the Indian army on this day.
Today, India pays tribute to its martyred soldiers who died in 1971 war.
Indian Army Sunday is celebrating 'Vijay Diwas' at Shivaji Park, Mumbai.
Defence Minister AK Antony paid homage to the brave soldiers at Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate.
The chiefs of the defence forces in India, Indian Navy Chief, Admiral D.K Joshi, Army Chief General Bikram Singh and Air Chief Marshal, N.A.K Browne, also paid their homage to the martyred soldiers.
At Shivaji Park, around 1500 military personnel from across the states are scheduled to gather to mark this victory day in a three-day programme.
Army will also demonstrate parade, flag march, motor-cycle display, sky diving, aero-modelling and other adventures at this fair.
The military band will also be displayed at Gateway of India, Chowpatty, and at Radium Mall.
General public are allowed to view all these shows.
Army will also address the problems of localities in the fair.
Youth will encourage to join Indian army, reports say.
Similar type of show had held in 2003 at Vijay Diwas.
