Ahmedabad, Dec. 13 (ANI): Around 38 percent voting has been recorded till 1 p.m. in the first phase of the Gujarat assembly elections on Thursday.
Ahmed Patel, political secretary to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Arjun Modhwadia, Gujarat Congress president and Gujarat Parivartan Party chief Keshubhai Patel are among the prominent persons who cast their vote in this morning.
Long queues were seen outside some polling booths as people preferred to come early to vote as voters in 87 of the 182 constituencies of the state assembly are exercising their right at 44,579 polling stations.
There are a total of 846 candidates in the fray, including 46 women.
Gujarat has witnessed 59.30 percent, 61.54 percent and 59.77 percent polling during past three assembly elections respectively in 1997, 2002 and 2007.
The second phase is slated for December 17 and the results will be declared on December 20. (ANI)
