Rahul's 'leaderless' campaign based on misinterpretation of facts, claims BJP

Ahmedabad , Tue, 11 Dec 2012 ANI

Ahmedabad, Dec 11 (ANI): Asserting that Rahul Gandhi's campaign in Gujarat was based on misinterpretation of facts, half-truths and aimed at misleading the people, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday said the Congress General Secretary has to rethink the kind of model with which he wants to lead his party or influence the Central Government's decision.

"Rahul Gandhi also spoke about 'Har Vyakti Ke Liye Bhojan Denge'. Gujarat Developmental Model looks for 'Har Vyakti Ke Liye Rozgaar Denge' so that the individual's self-respect is held high and the family can proudly live on its earned income," said Sitharaman.

"So, if the attitude of the Congress is to make 'a beggar of every individual', he has to rethink the kind of model with which he wants to lead his party or also influence the government's way as their party is ruling," she added.

Sitharaman alleged that Rahul Gandhi's campaign in Rajkot was based on misinterpretation of facts, half-truths and leaderless campaign.

"He has successfully continued with the tradition. The facts he was trying to project intended to show that the Gujarat Government is probably not delivering a good governance, has flatly fallen on its face," said Sitharaman.

"The points that Rahul Gandhi has highlighted in his Jamnagar address this morning are absolutely substance- less and to say the least again joining in misleading the people," she added.

Sitharaman, who is also the spokesperson of the BJP, said Rahul Gandhi should have looked at other Congress-ruled states wherein half of what is happening in Gujarat has not happened before making statements against the Narendra Modi Government.

"I would draw the example of Andhra Pradesh, where the Cabinet does not even meet once in three months or probably even longer, the chief minister does not meet with his Cabinet colleagues on stipulated dates or even within one day in a month. So is the case in Rajasthan where there are no determined dates for the meeting of the Cabinet," she added.

Pointing out that the Gujarat Cabinet sits every Wednesday to decide how they are progressing with, implementing policies and taking decisions which are critical for 'aam aadmi', Sitharaman said: " So, I am afraid Rahul Gandhi will have to do his homework about how the Congress Government in Rajasthan, in Maharashtra or even in Andhra Pradesh functions before coming to Gujarat to point a finger at the Gujarat administration, which has been very clearly showing such successes in reaching out to the 'aam aadmi', which cannot be matched by the Congress Party."

Rahul Gandhi, who made his first appearance in the Gujarat assembly election campaign today, claimed that there is a false propaganda launched in Gujarat that the state is making all- round progress, but contrary to it there is rampant corruption in the state, unemployment is very high and there is all- round failure.

Rahul Gandhi said the voices of the poor and downtrodden are suppressed in Gujarat, as the chief minister does not want to hear common people's grievances.

"People's voice is not heard in Gujarat. The government of Gujarat and the Chief Minister do not want to listen to you. He wants to hear only his own voice. He has his dream and he thinks only about his own dream. A true leader makes people's dream his own dream," he said.

Rahul Gandhi called Modi a salesman of false propaganda that Gujarat was making all- round progress.

He said there is no Lokayukta in Gujarat and 14,000 RTI applications were pending as government does not want to let any information come out as it would expose its true affairs.

In Gujarat, campaigning is in full swing for elections today even as top leaders from all political parties are holding election rallies to impress the voters.

Gujarat will go to the polls in two phases on December 13 and 17. The counting of votes will take place on December 20. (ANI)
