Minimize crime across Arunachal Pradesh, says Chief Minister Tuki

Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh), Dec.11 (ANI): Chief Minister Nabam Tuki today called upon every citizen, particularly parents, to shoulder the responsibility of minimizing crime in the state capital as well as across the state.

Laying the foundation stone of the Catholic Church here at newly christened Daying Ering Colony (near under-construction Assembly Secretariat) here this morning, Tuki pointed that law and order problems are created mostly by misguided or unguided youths and therefore the blame should be equally accepted by their parents.

"What can a Government do when the parents fail to guide and control their children? If you want I can use force as per law but do you want your children jailed under stringent laws or shot at by police?" Tuki threw the million dollar question while addressing a gathering of believers.

He beckoned that a clear message should go from the Churches to all parents and citizens that maintaining peace and law and order is not only the responsibility of the Government but theirs as well.

Tuki expressed surprise over several demands for enhancement of police force and establishment of police stations. He explained increasing or deploying police force is not the solution to law and order problem but the solution lies in proper guidance and control of parents over their growing children.

He also suggested against encouraging mushrooming of organizations, especially in the name of churches of various denominations.

"There are already overwhelming number of student, clan, colony, community, etc based unions and organizations. Churches should show by example and discourage such formations. In the name of uniting such organizations actually create disunity and alienation amongst the masses," he said.

Being a stout Christian, Tuki, however, asked the Christian community not to confuse with his religion and the post held by him. He said he might be a Christian but not a Christian chief minister.

"As the chief minister of this state, every religion is equal to me. I have to look after every region, every community and every tribe irrespective of their religion and beliefs," he said and assured believers of every faith and religion that their rights would be protected by the Government.

Lauding the Catholic Missionaries for their selfless services rendered in the fields of education, health and lifestyle of the people, Tuki expressed gratitude for helping the government in their own ways.

"Where the government couldn't reach, the Missionaries did. I salute them for that," he said.

Guest of Honor on the occasion, Lok Sabha MP Takam Sanjoy hailed the Catholic Mission for taking upon itself the construction of a one-of-its-kind Church in the heart of the state capital. He appealed all believers to contribute in the construction of the church.

Sanjoy said that everyday people give donations for one or the other cause but most of these are misused.

"I can guarantee that donations for this cause will not go unspent or spent uselessly," he said.

The Jubilee Memorial Church would be a state-of-the-art building with three levels. While the basement level would be for parking, the second level will have an auditorium that would house 3000 people. The third level will be the Church that would comfortably accommodate 2500 people on pews. The balcony is supposed to accommodate more than 800 people. The octagonal shaped church will have an illuminated Cross at a height of 142 feet, a grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes with a water fountain and a rosary park in devotion to Our Lady.

As per information, the contributions made by believers have reached Rs 20 lakhs till date.

The foundation stone laying ceremony was also attended by local legislator Techi Kaso, Parliamentary Secretary Nido Pavitro, MLA Bamang Felix, Itanagar Bishop John Thomas, Parish Priest Fr Tom Karthik and many others. (ANI)
