London, Dec 9 (ANI): Hospitals in UK have been hit by a huge rise in women suffering embarrassing injuries caused by vajazzles.

NHS figures show the number of patients admitted to A and E with cuts and infections to their private parts has leapt by 50 percent, the Sun reported.

Many problems medics have to deal with are casualties of botched DIY vajazzles.

The body art became a craze thanks to beautician Amy Childs, who starred in 'The Only Way Is Essex,' famous for catchphrases like "Shuuut Uuup" and "Reem."

Women in their late 30s are most likely to seek medical help for problems caused by vajazzles, Brazilians or other intimate grooming.

But the figures are also up for females in their early 20s and late 40s.

Some need treatment for misplaced sequins, others for cuts caused by the slip of a razor.

The leap in admissions for "genito-urinary" injuries is revealed in latest figures published by the Department of Health.

Men still account for seven out of ten admissions for genital, urinary tract and kidney problems. The most common causes include being hit with a cricket ball or awkward falls while getting out of the bath.

But the number of women seeking help has leapt by a massive 48 percent in five years.

Shadow public health minister Diane Abbott, who uncovered the stats, said: "It's up to young men playing sports and young women having grooming procedures done, like vajazzles, to make their own decisions about their health.

"It's their business. But I think it's a real shame if people's health and lives are being damaged by not taking enough care or having the right kit," she added. (ANI)
