Congress contradicts, BJP backs Tata for criticizing UPA Government policies

New Delhi, Sat, 08 Dec 2012 ANI

New Delhi, Dec.8 (ANI): The Congress Party on Saturday denied the allegations made by head of the Tata business empire, Ratan Tata, that lack of the government support is preventing investors in the country, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has endorsed his views.

Reacting to Tata's remarks, Congress leader and Union Minister of State for Home Affairs R P N Singh said that the government has brought various policies, which have made India investor friendly.

"Except for this year, the economy has been continuously growing and I am sure it will continue to be an investor friendly nation," said R P N Singh.

In an interview to an English Daily, Ratan Tata had expressed his unhappiness over lack of government support to create an investors friendly environment in India, saying that different agencies in the government have almost contradictory interpretations of the law, or interpretations of what should be done.

"These are things which by and large would drive investors away in most other countries," said Tata.

BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar backed the industrialist's views, and said: "What Ratan Tata has said is true in many ways, investors need guarantee of policy continuation, secure environment and secure governance."

"Unfortunately the UPA Government couldn't stand by any of it, the government has overlooked on these things and now Indian investors are investing abroad," added Javadekar.

Another BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain also lashed out at the government, saying: "The government has spoilt the environment for investment, businessmen are facing many problems."

In interviews published ahead of his retirement as chairman this month, Ratan Tata criticised what he called a lack of coherence in government policy and accused the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of forcing it to look abroad by failing to address complaints about bureaucracy. (ANI)
