New Delhi, Nov. 30 (ANI): Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Dr. Farooq Abdullah on Friday expressed profound sorrow at the demise of Inder Kumar Gujral, and said that the former Prime Minister was 'a politician, a diplomat and a humanist who would be remembered for his many accomplishments in the diplomatic and political arena'.
In his condolence message, he recalled Gujral's unyielding and untiring efforts to forge better relations between India and Pakistan.
Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers Srikant Kumar Jena also condoled the passing away of Gujral and described the former Prime Minister as a man of exceptional personality, courage and intellect.
"Today we feel extremely saddened on the demise of former Prime Minister Shri Inder Kumar Gujral, who was a man of exceptional courage and intellect. He was a part of India's freedom struggle and was jailed during the Quit India Movement. He formulated the "Gujral Doctrine", which is a set of five principles to guide the conduct of foreign relations with India's immediate neighbours," said Jena in his condolence message.
"People of the country have lost a great person in Shri Gujral. I wish to express my deep grief, heartfelt condolences and sympathies with his family in their bereavement. May his soul rest in peace," he added.
The parliament has deeply mourned the passing away of I K Gujral. Both the houses the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha mourned the passing away of Gujral.
Gujral, 92, breathed his last at Gurgaon's Medanta Hospital earlier today after a prolonged illness. (ANI)
