Mumbai, Nov.25 (ANI): Relatives of the Mumbai 2008 militant attack victims participated in a global peace initiative to pay tribute to those who had died in the brutal attacks, and vowed to continue their fight against militancy.
Addressing the gathering on November 25, a day before the fourth anniversary of the tragic event, attacks, US national, Scherr Kia Dilisek,who lost her husband and daughter in the attacks, expressed her gratitude to the city for extending emotional support in trying times.
"I lost my family in the city of Mumbai, and now four years later, the city of Mumbai has become my family. There are really no words to express my gratitude to each and every one of you. Three years ago, I came to Mumbai on a mission, it was a mission to counter balance terrorism with love supported by Mr. Oberoi, Mr. Ratan Tata, we formed One Life Alliance which gave rise to the global peace initiative," said Scherr.
Lauding Mumbai's 'never say die' spirit, Minister of State for HRD, Shashi Tharoor said that hatred should not flourish and at the same time the incident should not be forgotten.
"I think the spirit of Mumbai is extremely important and I am here in solidarity with them. I actually come here every year since 26/11, but quietly. The first year, I addressed a commemorative event, second and third year I came as a private citizen and went to the various spots and I felt very strongly we must not forget what happened and that this active remembrance and commemoration must also be done in a positive spirit. We are not here to be infected with the hatred that the terrorists are trying to spew in this country. We want in my view, rise above hatred and to affirm the right of life and of hope for Mumbai and for India and ultimately for the world," said Tharoor.
He also said that the unsung heroes of Mumbai 2008 should be remembered.
"On 26/11 we remember those who were killed, we remember the killers but we should also remember the policemen who fought back so bravely, those who gave up their life in defence of the city, those ordinary citizens who rescued people and rescued lives, saved lives, took the wounded to hospitals. There are many unsung Mumbaikars that we must remember today as well and that affirmation of life and hope is why I am here today,' said Tharoor. (ANI)
