Trinamool lacks a national perspective: Buddhadeb

West Bengal,Politics, Sat, 24 Nov 2012 IANS

Kolkata, Nov 24 (IANS) Alleging that the Trinamool Congress lacked a national perspective, CPI?M politburo member Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee Saturday said the party had moved the no?confidence motion in the Lok Sabha to serve its "narrow" political interests.

"They have no idea of politics at the national level. They lack a national perspective. Ask them why they moved the motion and they will have no answer," Bhattacharjee said at a party programme in neighbouring North 24?Parganas district's Dum Dum.

"They (Trinamool) decided to go for the motion to serve their narrow interests," he said.

Bhattacharjee said the Left parties were certain that the Congress would benefit if it had to face a no?confidence motion.

"That is the reason we did not want to give any ammunition to the government by opting for such a motion, as we knew the resolution will be defeated," he said.

The Trinamool's efforts to move the no?confidence motion to protest issues like FDI in retail was rejected by the Lok Sabha as the proposal was not backed by the requisite number of 50 members.

The CPI?M veteran said the Left parties preferred debate under Rule 184, which entailed voting, of the rules of procedure and conduct of business in the Lok Sabha on the FDI in retail issue as it felt the FDI proposal could be blocked if the government lost the motion.

"We are being careful. We are strongly opposed to the economic and other anti?people policies of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government. But at the same time we want to ensure that the communal BJP does not gain in the circumstances," he added.
