'In form' Pujara's resolute ton saves day for India after Panesar's early blows

New Delhi, Fri, 23 Nov 2012 ANI

New Delhi, Nov 23(ANI): In form Cheteshwar Pujara continued from where he had left off at Ahmedabad, as he slammed his second ton of the series to steady India after a wobbly start against left-arm spinner Monty Panesar.

Panesar claimed four of the five wickets to fall on day one of the second Test in Mumbai.

Pujara hooked James Anderson for a boundary in the 81st over to reach his century after facing 248 deliveries, as India ended day one at 266/5.

R Ashwin, who came to bat after the dismissal of skipper MS Dhoni, reached his half-ton after Pujara crossed the triple figure.

Earlier, Panesar claimed his fourth victim in the form of MS Dhoni (29) to give India sixth blow on the second ball after tea break.

However, Pujara and Ashwin frustrated the visitors with their gritty shows. The duo took the score past 250-mark in the 85th over.

Panesar, left out of the first Test that England lost by 9 wickets, was the destroyer-in-chief for the visitors.

The left-armer bowled a splendid spell of 23 overs on either side of lunch for the wickets of Virender Sehwag (30), Sachin Tendulkar (8) and Virat Kohli (19). (ANI)
