Jaipur, Nov 22 (IANS) Rajasthan will announce a new textiles policy by March next year to encourage domestic and foreign investment and also help all stakeholers tap the huge latent potential that lies in areas ranging from fabric to fashion.
The announcement was made at the inaugural session of "Vastra 2012" exposition at the Export Promotion Industrial Park at Sitapura industrial area here, that was attended by Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Industries Minister Rajendra Pareek.
"The textiles sector in Rajasthan already has a lot of potential. "In coming days, the textiles and apparel sector in the state will improve further and we hope Vastra is able to push that," the chief minister said.
"More opportunities will be thrown up along the Delhi?Mumbai Industrial Corridor that is being established with six mega zones," Gehlot told the inaugural session of the exposition that has attracted over 350 buyers from 60 countries.
Spread over 5,000 sq mts, the highlights of the event include live demonstrations of traditional craft, business shows, concurrent conferences and buyer?seller meetings. Some 170 exhibitors, covering the entire sector, are participating through 400 stalls.
Other highlights of the event ?? co?organised by RIICO and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) ?? include state pavilions of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Kerala and Haryana. There will also be conference sessions from Friday.
Pareek assured that Rajasthan will take every step to nurse the textile industry in the state and specifically spoke of workforce. "Every sector in the state needs trained manpower. For this, the state government will start new schemes for training," he said.
"This will convert the increasing population into a productive assets."
Sunil Arora, chairman of Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corp (RIICO) and principal secretary for industries, said Vastra 2012 will become an annual evwent to provide a platform for exchange of knowledge and ideas.
"The textiles and apparel industry can be a game changer and can take the country forward if focus is given to new innovation and state?of?the?art technology in the textiles sector," Arora added.
"There is always a crucial interface that happens in such expositions that gives those who participate an opportunity to network at an international level and we are keen that everyone gets the benefit of this," said Naveen Mahajan, managing director, RIICO.
