London, Nov 22(ANI): Formula One title contenders Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull and Fernando Alonso of Ferrari will travel to and from the Sao Paulo circuit in armoured cars with an armed police escort during this weekends Brazilian Grand Prix after more than three hundred were killed in a month in the city.
More than 90 policemen and 260 civilians have been killed in a little over a month following renewed attempts by the Brazil authorities to stop crime lords running their gangs from prison, the Daily Mirror reports.
Although security has always been high for the race, tension escalated as drivers flew in on Wednesday from the US Grand Prix to learn that security chief Antonio Ferreira Pinto had quit, the paper added.
The same precautions will apply to the rest of the grid, including McLaren duo Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton, it said.
Button's security was tightened up after his security driver had to ram his way through stationary traffic to escape an armed gang closing in on the car on the road from the circuit two years ago, it concluded. (ANI)
