Thiruvananthapuram,Business/Economy, Thu, 22 Nov 2012 IANS

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 22 (IANS) Technopark?based IBS Software Services has won a major contract from European cargo airline Lufthansa Cargo AG to implement iCargo, an air cargo management solution.

"There are three segments in this IT deal worth Rs.700 crore, of which we have the major share. This could be the single biggest contract signed by a product company like us in the country," said IBS executive chairman V.K. Mathews to reporters here.

iCargo solution helps airlines to improve cargo revenues and volumes, along with profitability and customer service, while cutting down operational costs.

This major deal was announced in the presence of Hans?Guenther Loeffler, the acting consul general, German Consulate General, Bangalore, by top officials of Lufthansa and IBS.

"We zeroed down on IBS from a list of 410 IT companies, who came to us with a proposal and after various levels of screening, it came down to five and then to two and finally IBS was selected. The decision is perceived as a major milestone towards materialising and enabling our joint visions," said Roland Schutz, CIO of Lufthansa Cargo.

Founded by V.K. Mathews in 1997, IBS has come a long way. Its client list covers 20 global airlines including All Nippon Airways, British Airways, Qantas, South African Airways and Nippon Airways to name a few.

"Now our target is by 2020 to become the number one product company in the air transportation industry. Today we are placed fourth in the list which supply IT product solutions to the airline industry," said Mathews.

Hans?Guenther Loeffler said this new deal is a fine example of Indo?German partnership.

"The deal is certain to bring Kerala and Germany closer as this fosters economic relations between both countries. The recent Emerging Kerala meet held at Kochi was a symbolic event as seeds have to be planted," said the German diplomat.

"At all Indo?German Chamber of Commerce meeting we did showcase opportunities that are available to German companies and plans are underway," he added.
