Delhi:Government approved 31 new PWD road projects

The Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC), Government of Delhi today gave its nod to 27 PWD projects and four EFC projects. An amount of 584 cr has been sanctioned for the 31 projects approved today by the EFC in its meeting chaired by the Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, who is also holding charge of Finance Department.

While briefing media after the meeting, Dikshit stated that the city government has initiated an ambitious road infrastructure development program with an estimated cost of over `2000 cr. The mega project is to be completed within next two years.

The city government is more concerned about the roads transferred to it by the corporations. The transferred roads are in bad shape and are not worth motorable. Hence, the government has decided to take up improvement works on 26 such roads at an estimated cost of 492 cr. In addition to this, the EFC has also ratified widening of Mehrauli-Mahipalpur Road from Andheria More to Masood Pur with an estimated cost of `58.21 cr.

The work includes widening of existing roads from four to eight lane, strengthening of existing road, improvement of footpath and drains, providing modern retro reflective road signage, improvement in horticulture road, upgradation of streetlighting and five year maintenance.

The EFC has also approved three projects of Irrigation & Flood Control Deptt. The projects relates to Kirari Suleman Nagar drains, procurement of modern machines for desilting of drains, fore-closure of works relating to construction of boundary wall along left bank of Najafgarh drain and ratification for fore-closure work regarding widening of existing road on the right bank of Bawana Escape Drain.
