Agartala (Tripura), Nov. 20 (ANI): A cultural troupe from Bangladesh performed to traditional Bengali music for packed audiences here recently.

A 30-member Bangladeshi ensemble performed to a wide range of Bengali traditional music. Some of the songs were specially attributed to Nobel laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore.

The event was organised jointly by Bangladesh's Chayanot Cultural Society and Agartala's Panthojan Cultural Group.

A member of Panthojan, Debashish Bhattacharjee, said: "The organising of this programme is a good effort of bringing together the Bengali people of the two nations. The effort is to bring out the cultural ties that we have seemed to lost today."

"It is common that a programme like such will definitely improve the relations between the two countries, as well as people to people contact, as well as the relations between the people of both the countries, specially of this state. It is a border land state. We are in a process to develop our relations with Bangladesh as well as with India and Tripura," added Shubhobrata Deb, a cultural activist of Panthojan.

The event was a part of the cultural diplomacy between India and Bangladesh, which shares cultural and linguistic affinity and such programme foster the bond of friendship between the people of two nations.

Both Bangladesh and the India have had common culture, with special emphasis given to the common language Bengali, which is spoken on both sides of the border.

The visit of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's to Delhi in 2010 followed by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to Dhaka in September 2011, was beginning of new era in bilateral relations between India and Bangladesh.

Earlier in January this year Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina made her two-day maiden visit to Tripura during which she was conferred honorary Doctor of Literature by the Tripura University at the ninth convocation. (ANI)
