Kolkata/Bangalore, Nov 19 (ANI): Lashing out at Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee's plan to move a no-confidence motion against the Centre in the Winter Session of Parliament, West Bengal Congress has claimed that the Manmohan Singh-led Government will run properly despite the former's efforts against it.
"The West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee (WBPCC) strongly condemns her (Mamata Banerjee) utterances, and we are absolutely clear that what she has said will not affect the Congress (government) ruling the country. We are quite confident that in spite of her ill motives, this government will run properly," said West Bengal Congress President Pradip Bhattacharya.
"But, one thing has been exposed, that Mamata Banerjee and her government have no political ideology," he added.
Meanwhile, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader M. Venkaiah Naidu alleged that the Congress-led UPA Government was effectively in a minority and lacked the mandate to implement important decisions of national relevance.
"Without bothering to discuss with anybody, they (UPA Government) have simply notified the FDI in retail. They did not consult their allies. TMC has opposed it and withdrawn support. DMK is opposing it. The Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party were also on record saying that they are opposed to this," Naidu told mediapersons in Bangalore.
"So, where is the majority for the Congress? How can a minority government take such important decisions?" he added.
Another BJP Murli Manohar Joshi said that his party would arrive at a decision after a consultation with its allies.
"That is one thing that always has to be thought (about) very carefully, because if you do not win the vote of confidence, it is useless. The government then becomes safe for six months. So, before that, we have to carefully chart out all the strategies," he said.
Mamata Banerjee earlier on Saturday announced that her party would bring a no confidence motion against the UPA Government in the Winter Session of Parliament.
"Our party's parliamentary leader in Parliament Sudip Bandyopadhay will move the no-confidence on the first day of the winter session," she told a press conference in Kolkata after a meeting with party MPs.
Stating that instead of moving notices under Rule 184, which entails voting or 193, which does not, Banerjee said "we have decided to bring the no-confidence motion to seek the ouster of the government and formation of a new government through fresh election."
"I request other political parties support our motion," she added.
The Winter Session of Parliament will begin on November 22.
The TMC had parted ways with the UPA coalition over differences on the fresh economic reforms introduced by the government in mid-September, including the decision to allow foreign direct investment (FDI) in multi-brand retail.
Parliament did not function for the entire Monsoon Session over the demand of the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's resignation and cancellation of licences of coal blocks and an independent probe into the coal scam. (ANI)
