Maoists kill Chhattisgarh cop

Raipur, Nov 18 (IANS) A head constable was killed Sunday by Maoist rebels in an attack on a combing squad at a forested area in Chhattisgarh, police said.

Head constable Afzal Khan was killed in the Kondagaon district in violence?hit Bastar region, police said.

According to Superintendent of Police D. Shravan, a combing team comprising the district force personnel and Chhattisgarh Armed Force troopers was attacked in Malnar village in the afternoon by the Maoists.

An exchange of fire followed for about half hour after which the rebels fled into the forests, he said.

Meanwhile, the security personnel apprehended rebel Rohit Gond in Mohela area in Rajnandgaon district during search operation Sunday, said Additional Superintendent of police Vijay Agrawal.
