The Election Commission (EC) over the complaint of Janta Party leader Subramanian Swamy against Indian National Congress (INC) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi for giving wrong information on later's asset has ordered to the returning officer to probe the case.
According to Swami's complaint, Rahul Gandhi in his nomination papers of last parliamentary election in 2009 had filled wrong information about his assets which was much more what he had declared, said Swami in his complaint to EC.
Taking action over the complaint, EC has asked the returning officer of Amethi Lok Sabha constituency, where Rahul had filled the nomination papers and fought election, to probe allegations.
In this regard, EC has written a letter to the returning officer reportedly on Nov 15 in which it has said, "Since the affidavit is filed before the Returning Officer, in view of the provisions of Section 195 of CrPC, it is the Returning Officer concerned, who is the competent authority to consider any complaint regarding false statement in the affidavit."
EC has also allow returning officer to take any appropriate action according to law, if he is satisfied with the complaint of Swamy.
