The tribes of four states under the banner of Bhartiya Adivasi Janmanch (BAJ) Thursday raise their demands of properly implementation of PESA Act in nine states that provides them their fundamental rights and the lands where they live.
They were on their day-long protest at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi marking the 137th birth anniversary of great tribe leader of British India and freedom fighter.
To raise their voice and to protest the government over tribes’ suppression policy, the tribes of four states - Assam, Chhattishgarh, Jharkhand and West Bengal - came to Delhi and asked for quantum of demands from the government.
Their prime demands include - successfully implementation of PESA (Panchayat (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act, 2006 in nine states, reservation of Scheduled Tribes in private jobs, to pass an authorise bill to prevent the extortion of domestic labours, to recognize and include tribals' religion 'Sarna' in government’s list of national religion and many others.
To exercise their rights properly given to tribals, BAJ demands to strictly implementing the 5th Schedule of Indian constitution in the tribal areas of the country that falls in nine states: Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Orissa and Rajasthan, BAJ said in a press release.
They were also demanding to declare national holiday on the birthday of their prominent leader Birsa Munda.
