Pak envoy hosts music concert to cement cultural ties with India

New Delhi , Sat, 10 Nov 2012 ANI

New Delhi, Nov 10 (ANI): Pakistan High Commissioner to India Salman Bashir has hosted a music concert here to cement cultural ties with India.

The objective of the event was to strengthen relation between India and Pakistan, and also to share common culture between both countries.

"We hope that this programme is seen and liked, as it is an initiative to spread the message of harmony and brotherhood," said Salman Bashir, Pakistan High Commissioner to India.

Renowned Pakistani singer Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan performed at the event and left the audience spellbound on late Friday evening.

People in audience were seen humming along with Khan as he sang some of his hit Bollywood numbers other than belting out a couple of popular Sufi songs which even had some visitors dancing.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Rajiv Shukla, who was a guest at the event, lauded the objective of the concert.

"I applaud this initiative of the Pakistan High Commissioner as through cultural programmes we can not only strengthen bilateral relations but also deepen people to people relation. Hence, any amount of appreciation is less," said Shukla.

Khan also exuded immense energy, as he performed his way to the audience's heart.

An equally ecstatic Khan spoke to media over his experience of performing in the neighbouring nation.

"It always feels good to come to India and the Pakistan High Commission. I get immense love and appreciation here too, so it almost feels like home," said Khan.

In spite of the many contentious issues, India and Pakistan have made major strides in reducing the "trust deficit" over the past few years. (ANI)
