London, Nov 9 (ANI): Micro blogging platform Twitter has issued an apology for wrongly telling its users that their accounts had been hacked and forcing them to reset their passwords.
Twitter had sent out a "large number" of emails asking users change their login details.
As many as one in 10 of Twitter's over 500 million accounts were thought to be affected, the Telegraph reports.
"Twitter believes that your account may have been compromised by a website or service not associated with Twitter," the email said.
"We've reset your password to prevent others from accessing your account," it added.
According to the paper, in a blog post this afternoon, Twitter admitted it had reset passwords by accident.
"In this case, we unintentionally reset passwords of a larger number of accounts, beyond those that we believed to have been compromised," the firm said.
"We apologize for any inconvenience or confusion this may have caused," it added. (ANI)
