New Delhi, Nov 8 (IANS) Infrastructure developer GVK Group Thursday entered into an agreement with the Airports Authority of Indonesia to operate and manage duty free zone and other non-aeronautical commercial operations at Bali International Airport.

"Retail, F&B (food and beverages) and duty free are significant components of passenger experience at any airport," said G.V. Sanjay Reddy, vice chairman, GVK Power and Infrastructure.

"This is also in line with our stated endeavour to take this airport to international standards and help Indonesia in realising its growing potential as a key destination in the region," said Reddy.

According to the company, the scope of agreement includes work at the existing terminals and the new international terminal which is currently under construction and is expected to open in the third quarter of 2013.

Bali has emerged as a prime destination for tourist traffic from both Europe and Asia.

GVK is also developing an international greenfield airport in Yogyakarta in central Java region in collaboration with the Indonesian government.

Currently, GVK has emerged as India's largest private airport operator with its two airports in Mumbai and Bangalore together handling passenger traffic of about 44 million in the year 2011-12.
