Brisbane, Nov 8 (ANI): Former skipper Ricky Ponting has said Australia's fast bowlers can upset South Africa's batting line up as they did against India last summer.
Speaking on the eve of the first Test at the Gabba, he claimed that South Africa's batting line-up is no better than the one Australia decimated early this year, winning the four-Test series 4-0 against India.
Ponting said there is no reason to fear South Africa, which has four of its batsmen ranked in the top seven.
India's aging batting line-up was fully exposed by Peter Siddle, Ben Hilfenhaus and James Pattinson, who will make up Australia's pace attack again tomorrow.
"I don't see their batting line-up being any stronger than India's was last year," said Ponting.
"The attack we put out last year is very similar to what we go with tomorrow in our conditions, conditions that we know very well. Siddle and Pattinson especially have got a lot of first class cricket under their belt and have taken a lot of wickets at the start of the summer.
"They're confident, they're bowling well. I faced both those guys in the nets and I expect they'll have good series. That's the way we have to look at it. We have to know that the way that we bowled and the way that we played last year was somewhere near our best.
"If we can produce that again it doesn't matter what batting line-up were bowling to, we'll take 20 wickets in a Test," he said.
South Africa has Dale Steyn ranked number one in the world, Vernon Philander two, and Morne Morkel at nine. (ANI)
