Agartala, Nov 7 (IANS) Aiming to improve the quality of the judicial system, Tripura will set up a law institute to train magistrates, lawyers and officials in providing solutions to day-to-day problems in their departments, officials said here Wednesday.
"The proposed law training institute would start functioning within the next few months. The institute would be an autonomous body and will be governed by a body headed by the state's law secretary," an official of the state law department told IANS.
The participants will be trained in court-room exercises and will be given tutorials, and other forms of teaching-learning process. The officials will be given hands on training and information about the legal problems that they face in day-to-day working in their offices and departments, an official said.
It will promote and make available modern judicial education and research facilities to the students.
The upcoming law training institute would also provide training to the judicial magistrates, administrative magistrates, public prosecutors, police officials, IAS and IPS officers, Tripura Civil Service officials and those overseeing the legal wings of their departments and provide remedy to their problems.
Currently judicial officers, lawyers, police personnel and officials associated with the courts in the entire northeastern region are trained in northeast India's only such institute - the North East Judicial Officers Training Institute - in Guwahati.
