New Delhi, Nov. 7 (ANI): U.S. Ambassador India Nancy Jo Powell on Wednesday hailed Barack Obama's second term as U.S. President, and said that the relations with India will continue to flourish.
"Millions of Americans have just learnt that president Obama has been re-elected. They are still glued to their favorite television station watching the results come out. The big story was who will win the White House, but we were also looking at elections of the US Congress where it appears that the Republicans have maintained their majority and in the senate for 33 seats where it appears that Democrats have maintained their majority," said Powell.
"This has been a very closely run race; in many polling places the votes were 50-50. The election has been lively; both sides have put their cases forward with energy and enthusiasm. The debate was frank and often challenging. Still we saw Americans walking into polling stations side by side with friends and neighbours who were about to vote for either side and walking out again together. Regardless of the outcome, I do know is that you can look forward to a close relationship that our two countries share," she added.
Meanwhile, Venkat Narayan, a local here, expressed his delight over Obama's victory, saying this is good for America and the whole world.
"I never had any doubt in my mind that Obama is going to win. I am very happy that Obama has won this election. This is good for America and good for the whole world. Congratulations to the people of America for making a very sensible decision," said Narayan.
"Nothing like it, no feeling can match this. It's amazing amazing amazing. It is good for us, I is good for the world. It is not about local politics, it is about global politics. That is what Obama is all about," added another local Jaspal Kaur.
Defying the undertow of a slow economic recovery and high unemployment, Obama created history again by defeating his Republican foe Mitt Romney.
Obama also thanked his supporters on his historic win. (ANI)
