Lucknow, Nov 6 (IANS) Parts of Faizabad city in Uttar Pradesh were tense Tuesday following protests over arrests by police over the recent communal clashes, an official said.
District magistrate of Faizabad Deepak Agarwal, while confirming the "slight problem", told IANS that some issues cropped up while arrests were being made in the morning.
"Police parties had gone to arrest some people for their alleged involvement in the communal clashes last month, but the problem has been sorted out now," he said.
Police officials said that during the arrest process there were sporadic protests from members of a community. They raised slogans and downed shutters of their shops.
Some search team members entered a religious place and this sparked protests, police officials said.
Curfew was imposed in the city, about 120 km from here, for over a week after clashes broke out during the immersion ceremony of idols of Goddess Durga.
Many shops were gutted in the frenzy thereafter. More than 100 people were arrested for rioting, police said.
