New Delhi, Nov.5 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday said that the Allahabad High Court's decision to dismiss petitions against former chief minister Mayawati in the Taj Corridor scam as a temporary relief.
The Allahabad High Court on Monday (November 05) dismissed petitions against Mayawati in the alleged 170 million rupees Taj Corridor scam.
The court pronounced the order while hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) that has challenged the refusal of the Mayawati and her close aide Naseemuddin Siddiqui.
BJP spokesperson, Balbir Punj said that it was too early to comment on the matter as the matter is yet to be taken up in the Supreme Court.
"This relief is just temporary because Supreme Court is yet to be approached. So, the final decision on this matter is yet to be pronounced and it would not be right to give statements on this judgment," said Punj.
Speaking on similar lines, another BJP spokesperson, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said all the allies of federal government are talking their share before leaving the ground.
"We have to find out the role played by the federal government and its agencies in the court on this matter. But it is clear that the allies of the federal government, whether internal or external, are also taking their share before the government leaves the ground," said Naqvi.
The high court had on September 12 reserved its judgment on PILs seeking direction for initiation of proceedings of criminal case against Mayawati and Siddiqui.
A special court of federal police, the Central Bureau of Investigation had dropped proceedings against Mayawati and Siddiqui in 2007, as the apex-investigating agency could not obtain prosecution sanction from UP governor.
Six different PILs filed in 2009 and 2011 have said that there was no need of sanction order to prosecute the duo and hence the High Court should direct for their trial.
Meanwhile, leader of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Sudhindra Bhadoria said that the Central Bureau Of Investigation (CBI) was merely wasting its time in enquiring the matter as the probe was being undertaken to tarnish the image of Mayawati.
Nothing was there in the Taj Corridor case. The CBI was enquiring into this matter for a long time and also other agencies including the honourable Governor of Uttar Pradesh and after so much wastage of time and energy of the party, it has come out clearly that it was done with a political motive in order to malign the image of the party," said Bhadoria.
The controversial project, work on which started in 2002-03 during Mayawati's tenure as state chief, envisaged construction of shopping malls, entertainment complexes and amusement parks next to the historic Taj Mahal in northern Agra city.
The move had environmentalists and conservationists up in arms against the state chief for tampering with the age-old setting of the Taj Mahal and destroying its aesthetic feel for purely commercial reasons.
The Taj corridor case, which snowballed into a national controversy, led to the fall of the Mayawati-led state government in 2003 besides suspension of some top officials. (ANI)
