Washington, November 5 (ANI) Michael Douglas will be playing Ronald Reagan in 'Reykjavik', which revolves around the U.S.-Russia summit on nuclear weapons 26 years ago in Iceland.
Filming for the Cold War movie will begin in March aims for a 2014 release, focuses on the Reykjavik Summit in 1986 between Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev (played by Christoph Waltz) that, while unsuccessful, ended up establishing a connection between the two world leaders that would ultimately result in the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty the following year.
The biggest challenge faced by the makers was how to portray Reagan and Gorbachev, and that do Douglas and Waltz do a straight-up physical impersonation or try to inhabit a different space.
Mike Newell, who will direct the film and whose previous work includes 'Donnie Brasco' and 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire', recognizes the dilemma.
"We have the same problem in this country with [Winston] Churchill," Politico quoted Newell as saying.
"If you don't have a cigar and a glass of port in his hand, they say it's not Churchill. And, if you do, they say it's the same Churchill all over again.
"The answer is there has to be a recognizable exterior because it will destroy credibility if there isn't and, at the same time, what you have to do is to get under the skin," he added. (ANI)
