Shimla, Nov.2 (ANI): Former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Friday predicted that the Congress Party would win the November 4 single phase elections in Himachal Pradesh.
Addressing media here on the last day of campaigning, Singh said: "I am absolutely more than confident over 101 percent that the party is going to come to power."
He also utilised the opportunity to launch a salvo at the Bharatiya Janata Party-led state government over charges of corruption and misgovernance.
"Seven out of eleven of their ministers are facing corruption criminal charges, 21 out of 41 MLAs (legislators) are facing charges of various types, so this is a sort of a mafia government that has really functioned in this place and naturally when the common man who is concerned for the future of his family, his daughters-sons, sees this sort of thing going on, eventually they are very disturbed so this seems to be the reason for this coming up," said Singh.
Singh cashed on the emotions of the state's people ahead of the polls highlighting that not much had been done for region's upliftment.
"By god's grace I think people are looking forward to a government which will perform for Himachal Pradesh and for the people who have somehow are feeling stagnant. They are feeling that nothing has happened and they don't seem to be having some sort of a future, which is their concern for their children and themselves," said Singh.
The counting of votes in Himachal Pradesh is scheduled to take place on December 20.
Seeking votes ahead of state polls, various political parties are making efforts to lure the electorate with tall promises by orating about issues like corruption, crimes and lack of development among others.
The legislative assembly of Himachal Pradesh consists of 68 seats, 42 of which were won by BJP in the previous election.
The BJP led state government is making several attempts to seek another term for incumbent Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Prem Kumar Dhumal, who is leading the campaign.
Former federal minister and Congress leader Virbhadra Singh, who was also five times Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, would contest from Shimla (rural). (ANI)
