Delhi government has gave its nod to a proposal for execution of agreement between INTACH and Department of Archeology for conservation and refurbishment works on monuments under the City Government.
While briefing the media after the cabinet meeting Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said that her Government has been actively involved in protection and conservation of the important monuments as per the mandate under the Delhi Ancient and Historical Monuments and Archeological Sites and Remains Act.
It launched an ambitious project of Survey, Documentation, Protection, Conservation and Refurbishment of Ancient Monuments of Local importance in 2007-08. In view of the huge extent of this work and non-availability of expertise and infrastructure with the department, an MOU was signed in October 2008 with INTACH for three years for undertaking the work in two phases.
In the first phase INTACH has completed the field surveys, photo documentation, brief descriptions, site plans of 95 documents showing all topographic features. Based on this the department is processing the notification for protection of various monuments.
These works have been executed by INTACH. In view of the impressive outcome of the earlier MOU, extensive resources and expertise of INTACH, it has been decided to further utilize its services for survey, protection and conservation of 16 other monuments.
