Nobel Prizes 2012 to be awarded from Oct 8 - Oct 15

The dates for this year's Nobel prizes has been announced. Nobel Prizes will be awarded from Monday, October 8 until they wind up a week later with the Economics Prize.

Following are the dates when Nobel Prizes 2012 will be announced:

• Nobel Medicine Prize: Monday, October 8 2012 at 1500 IST at the earliest.
• Nobel Physics Prize: Tuesday, October 9, 1515 IST at the earliest.
• Nobel Chemistry Prize: Wednesday, October 10, 1515 IST at the earliest.
• Nobel Literature Prize: Thursday, October 11

(Swedish Academy only announces the date for the Nobel Literature Prize few days in advance but it is traditionally on a Thursday at 1630 IST.)

• Nobel Peace Prize: Friday, October 12, 1430 IST.
• Nobel Economics Prize: Monday, October 15, 1630 IST at the earliest.

There are around 231 nominees for Peace Prize. No favorites have come up yet and the juries are going to great lengths to keep the laureates' names under wraps.

Nobel Prizes were established in 1895 according to the will of the Swedish philanthropist inventor Alfred Nobel.

Peace Prize is awarded in Oslo, Norway, while the other prizes are awarded in Stockholm, Sweden.
