South Australia unveils '10-year strategy' to boost business ties with India

Sydney, Wed, 31 Oct 2012 ANI

Sydney, Oct 31 (ANI): In a bid to boost business ties with India, South Australia has outlined a new ten-year strategy to focus on the defence, energy, education and clean technology sectors in the country.

South Australia Premier Jay Weatherill, who is to visit India next month, said the strategy would put SA in the best position to take advantage of the country's rapid development.

According to the Herald Sun, the Australian government also intends to establish a South Australia-India Council, which would include experts from business, government and the community.

"States need to more effectively engage with this emerging economic powerhouse and this strategy sets out how we will do that," the report quoted Weatherill, as saying.

According to the paper, Trade Minister Tom Koutsantonis said under the new plan commercial opportunities with India would be identified and prioritized.

"South Australia's leadership in research and education, water and environmental management, renewable energy and agribusiness provide the foundation for a more diverse and productive partnership," Koutsantonis said.

"And, of course, South Australia's mineral and energy resources must continue to play a major role in the development of economic relations with India," he added. (ANI)
