Bihar CM Nitish Kumar assures fair probe into extortion allegation

Patna (Bihar) , Mon, 29 Oct 2012 ANI

Patna (Bihar), oct. 29 (ANI): Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday assured that he would order a fair probe into an allegation of extortion of money demanded by don-turned politician Munna Shukla from the owner of a private engineering college.

Former Bihar State Assembly member Vijay Kumar Shukla alias Munna Shukla, who is serving a jail term in connection with a murder case, has been booked for illegal possession of a mobile phone and for allegedly seeking Rs. 2 crore as extortion money.

Annu Shukla, wife of Munna, is a Janata Dal-United MLA, who represents the Lalganj Assembly seat.

Kumar assured that nobody would be protected and action would be taken against the culprits.

"There is rule of law in my state. Nobody is given protection nor is anybody implicated. You should have confidence in police. It is investigating the matter. After the investigation is over, action will be taken," said Kumar in Patna.

The opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) alleged that Shukla had demanded money for organizing the JD-U's public rally in Patna on November 4.

"He has demanded extortion from the jail. Where is the rule of law? Where is good governance? His (Nitish Kumar) party's spokesperson said that Shukla is not member of their party. He has been MLA (member of legislative assembly) twice and he also contested MP (member of parliament) election on their party symbol. His wife is currently MLA," said senior RJD leader Ram Kripal Yadav in Patna.

Annu Shukla claimed that her husband had been implicated for taking up the cause of people, on whose land the college was built.

"My husband only asked him to pay to former landowners. He implicated him to avoid making payment and to keep the former landowners mum. But it will not fructify. He will have to pay. He will have to provide job as he assured them," said Annu in Hajipur.

Shukla has been accused in several criminal cases and is in jail since 2010 after being convicted for the 1998 killing of Brij Bihari Prasad, the then science and technology Minister in the government led by the RJD. (ANI)

Since the ascension of Mr.Nitish Kumar to the throne of Bihar, we the people have seen amazing rise in the level of crime and corruption mostly unreported. Isn't it naive to expect a criminal ordering probe against his own misdeeds? Indicates the mental paralysis of the dictator who takes the citizens of this state for granted. His goons are trained to fearlessly extort money both in and outside his secretariat and the already sold out media has been asked not to report on such issues.Nothing short of a total civil disobedience can get Bihar out of this horrible mess.
