London, Oct 27(ANI): A woman from Brazil has given birth to twins at the age of 61 after trying for a baby for over 30 years.
Antonia Asti used 10-year-old frozen embryos to get pregnant with daughter Sofia and son Roberto, the Mirror reported.
"I'm thrilled. All I ever wanted to be is a mother and now my dream has finally come true. I fought for so long," she said.
Asti, of Sao Paulo, struggled for years for a baby with carpenter husband Jose, 55, and first tried IVF at age 51.
When that failed she tried to adopt but she was deemed too old.
The ageing embryos were successfully artificially inseminated this year at the fourth attempt.
"She wanted to use them for a new and final attempt, as a last resort," Reproduction specialist Dr Olando de Castro Neto said.
The twins were delivered by caesarean at 31 weeks on Tuesday, weighing in at just 2 pounds each.
They will be looked after in hospital until they reach ideal weight. (ANI)
