New Delhi, Oct 26 (ANI): Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde on Friday applauded the courage of the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) during unfavourable circumstances.
Speaking at the 51st Raising Day celebrations of the ITBP, Shinde said that he had recently interacted at a personal level with the soldiers and added that they valiantly stood on the borders and safeguarded them.
"Recently, I went to visit the force near Leh-Ladakh and I got the opportunity to interact with them. I saw that they do not lose their courage during unfavourable circumstances. They are involved in safeguarding the border. The force has been involved in international missions as well and also in Maoist-infested areas," he said.
Shinde further said that the Indian side was not as prepared during the Sino-Indian war in 1962, but said that the present military and paramilitary forces are well equipped to fight the enemy.
"The incident that took place in 1962. We were not well prepared at that time. Our military or paramilitary forces today and especially ITBP, who I interacted with and saw their operations. I had mentioned that I had gone to Peyong Lake and Chinese posts can be viewed from that point. Our force is worth applauding and I appreciate the work done by them," he said.
Shinde said that there have been no reports of infiltration from China, adding that he has studied the issue in detail.
