New Delhi, Oct.24 (ANI): Congress Party leader Sandeep Dikshit has said that allegations against Bharatiya Janata Party president Nitin Gadkari are out in the public domain and investigation agencies would look into the matter.
G
adkari is facing the heat in the wake of reports of his involvement in dubious financial dealings.
According to the report in the media, 18 companies which own 80 percent of the shares in Purti Group, owned by him, are not located on the addresses mentioned on the website of the company.
But the managing director of the Purti Group, Sudhir Dive, has dismissed the corruption allegations against Gadkari, adding that he resigned from the company 14 months ago.
Talking to media persons in New Delhi, Dikshit said that action would be taken against Gadkari if allegations against hold any truth.
"As I said earlier, this news is in the public domain. Investigation should be done to verify if Gadkari (chief of India's main opposition, Bharatiya Janata Party) is involved with the company, he is associated with and also if other companies invested in this particular company. We have competent agencies, like SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India), income tax, which should be taken into loop and should be handed over the investigation. If they think misappropriations have been committed, action should be taken. As far as Ram Jethmalani (BJP lawmaker) says that Gadkari should resign, it is upto the Bharatiya Janata Party to decide if they want to make changes or retain Gadkari," said Dikshit.
He added the Congress Party would take a stand once allegations against him are proved.
"Issue is not that every business deal or every private or personal concern is a political issue. The issue is if there are cases of misdemeanour that can be linked back to a person's executive authority, which has come to him through politics, then obviously it should be questioned, it will be investigated, it should be made a political issue. Once those facts come out, once we find out what is the reality behind the allegations right now, the party will take stand," said Dikshit.
Earlier, Anjali Damania, close aide of anti-graft crusader cum politician Arvind Kejriwal had alleged that Gadkari had acquired 100 acre of farmers' land through dubious means for his private trust although he refuted these charges.
Three members of India Against Corruption (IAC) - Anjali Damania, Prashant Bhushan, Mayank Gandhi - have been accused of irregularities in land deals.
Nonetheless, exuding confidence, Kejriwal has dared the government to order probe against the trio and also formed a panel of former judges of High Courts that would probe the matter internally. (ANI)
