Ajmer (Rajasthan), Oct. 23 (ANI): A fire broke out in the Kesar Ganj area of Ajmer, Rajasthan, on Tuesday, engulfing 25 godowns of cloth, chemical and transport companies, and gutted property worth almost ten lakh rupees.
Around 20 fire tenders were used to douse the blaze.
The fire occurred at a godown from where it spread to nearby godowns.
An eyewitness Sunil said: "It was recess time in the school. After the recess got over we saw smoke rising from a building, we ran to the terrace of the building and saw fire in the godown. Godowns caught fire rapidly and within half an hour it spread in the whole area. Fire brigades reached and they had started their work. School children were taken to another campus and they are safe."
No casualties have been reported yet.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained and investigations are underway.
Fire safety regulations are lax, rarely implemented and not periodically reviewed in India, which results in the breaking of major fires, resulting in the loss of life and property. (ANI)
