New Delhi, Oct.21 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday urged the ruling Congress party to monitor the airfares of private airlines and take strict action against those found guilty of exploiting the public.
BJP national vice president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that private airlines had been running havoc, charging baseless fares from people and the government should keep a tab on it.
"The civil aviation industry is openly looting the people of this country and the government is blatantly ignoring this open loot. They failed to control one airline and then suspended its license and with that suspension, the management of that airline has been given the right to snatch the rights of its employees. Also other private airlines are looting the public as the airfares have risen almost 200 percent and the festive season is going on. The government should not ignore this situation and take strict action against all these airlines," said Naqvi.
Earlier in the day, Congress general secretary Digivijay Singh said the government could expose corruption cases against family members of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and veteran BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani, but would not as their was an ethical line in politics to not target family members.
He was talking in reference to the charges levied by anti-graft crusader Arvind Kejriwal on son-in-law of Congress party chief, Sonia Gandhi, Robert Vadra.
"The problem with the Congress party is that they use expired ammunition in a rusted gun and then fire shots. The gun is rusted and then they use expired ammunition, so the shots just fizzle. We know that the Congress party is high on the opium of pride but in this high they should use some brains, so that the black spot on their face made from the coal scam can be washed a little, as it cannot be completely wiped out," said Naqvi added.
Earlier citing a court judgement, anti-graft activist Arvind Kejriwal and his colleagues under the banner of India Against Corruption (IAC) had alleged that there was nexus between Congress-ruled Haryana state, Vadra and DLF, the country's biggest real estate developer.
Kejriwal also accused that Vadra availed Rs.85 crores as an unsecured loan from DLF and he used the fund to buy properties owned by the same firm well below the market price.
The senior BJP leader finally shifted focus on the upcoming assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat.
"We have shown good governance and growth in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh in such extreme conditions when the ruling Congress party is repeatedly putting speed breakers in development of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh. Even then we have protected the pride and human conditions of both the states. On one hand we have Gujarat that is a beacon of growth and secondly in Himachal Pradesh we have brought development to each village," Naqvi said.
The first phase of the Gujarat assembly polls will be held on December 13, while the second will be held on December 17.
Counting of votes will take place on December 20.
Over 35,000 troopers from the paramilitary forces and at least 55,000 state police personnel are likely to be deployed for the upcoming Gujarat polls.
The legislative assembly of Himachal Pradesh consists of 68 seats, 42 of which were won by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the previous election.
On its part, the BJP, which is the main opposition in the country, is determined to seek another term for the incumbent Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, who will lead the campaign.
Former central minister Virbhadra Singh is contesting from Shimla (Rural) constituency.
The single-phase election in Himachal Pradesh will take place on November 04 while counting of votes is scheduled on December 20. (ANI)
