'Embarrassed' Fergie says 'Rio Ferdinand let Man U down by refusing to wear anti-racism T-shirt'

London, Sun, 21 Oct 2012 ANI

London, Oct. 21 (ANI): Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has said that Rio Ferdinand has let down the club after he followed his brother, Anton's footsteps to refuse to wear a 'Kick It Out' anti-racism T-shirt in protest to the perceived weak punishment meted out to John Terry for his verbal abuse.

Rio incurred the wrath of Ferguson by boycotting the organisation's day of action for their home game against Stoke, following which the United manager suggested the that defender would now be disciplined by the club.

"I'm disappointed because I said in the press conference yesterday that every player in the country should adhere to the PFA's request. It is embarrassing for me. We are all wearing the badges and he goes and lets us down. We'll deal with it, don't worry," The Telegraph quoted Fergie, as saying.

According to the paper, the Ferdinand brothers have also let their anger be known directly to the Kick It Out campaign on a weekend in which Chelsea publicly apologised to the Ferdinand family for the racial abuse directed at Anton by Terry, who remains the club captain.

Other players on Saturday joined in Ferdinand's protest with the biggest show of support coming at the match between Swansea and Wigan, where no player wore the T-shirt, the paper said. (ANI)
