Kolkata, Oct 20 (ANI): In a brilliant display of creativity, an artist from Kolkata, has recycled medicine aluminium foil package to make goddess Durga idol for the ongoing Durga Puja festival.
Biman Nag, who creates magic out of trash, said he has mastered the art by practicing it for more than 25 years.
Nag's collection includes idols of Hindu goddess Durga, Ganesha, trident of Shiva, idol of renowned poet Rabindranath Tagore, sphinx and many more.
He said on Friday that paper or thermocol is stuffed inside the medicine aluminium foil package to create an idol.
"I use the foil of medicine covers and shape it and stuff it with thermocol and paper to make the main structure. The foil is shaped according to the design. I stuff colourful blue, red papers on the tablet covers and also use some colours," he said.
Nag said that it sometimes takes one whole year to create an idol.
He said that his religion is his art he likes making Durga idols the most.
"I believe in the equality of all the religions. I believe that I am a man and not a Hindu or Christian or Muslim. But this is an art and I am more inclined making Hindu goddess Durga idol and therefore, I usually make that," he said.
Nag has been offered to organise an exhibition of his creative work of art, during the festive season of 'Durga Puja'.
Kolkata celebrates this festival where makeshift tents displaying larger-than-life- sized idol and stalls of mouth-watering delicacies are seen in almost every locality of the city.
On this occasion, homes are re-painted and decorated to welcome and seek the blessings of the goddess. Small idols of the goddess are also installed for worship.
The Hindu trinity of Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu created Goddess Durga, the most powerful of all gods and goddesses to vanquish the demons, hence the term 'Durga Puja' which means worshipping the Goddess. (ANI)
