London, Oct 19 (ANI): Showing his displeasure over master blaster Sachin Tendulkar getting the prestigious Order of Australia award, former Australian opener Matthew Hayden has mockingly asked for making Sachin Prime Minister of Australia.

Speaking to Triple M Sydney's The Rush Hour, Hayden was furious on Tendulkar being conferred the highest civilian award of Australia, and wanted the honour to remain exclusively for Australian citizens.

He said: "I am not so sure. There are things that are sacred within our country. I get the point that he has been such an iconic figure here.

"If Sachin was living in Australia, then gee, why not give him the Prime Minister gong. For me, it should be exclusive for Australians."

On Tuesday, Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard announced that 'Order of Australia' would be conferred on Sachin Tendulkar for his contribution to the sport.

Gillard, who made the announcement during a visit to a cricket clinic in New Delhi on Tuesday, said the "special honour", would be awarded by Australian cabinet minister Simon Crean when he visits India soon.

Australia's Opposition Leader Tony Abbott also welcomed the decision to award the country's top most civil honour to cricket legend Tendulkar.

Tendulkar was elated after hearing the news, hoping it would further "cement the bond" between the two countries.

"I indeed feel privileged and honoured at receiving this recognition. I hope that this honour will further cement the bond between the two countries, we both share a unique love for cricket," Tendulkar said from South Africa where he is representing Mumbai Indians in the ongoing Champions League Twenty20 tournament.
