'Cabinet image can improve only after Manmohan Singh quits': BJP

New Delhi, Wed, 17 Oct 2012 ANI

New Delhi, Oct 17 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Balbir Punj on Wednesday said Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh should move out of the Congress-led UPA II Government so that the image of the Union Cabinet improves.

Punj held the Prime Minister responsible for the bad image of the ruling government

"Well, if a patient is suffering from serious cancer, you just can't improve the condition of the patient by just putting some makeup. You have to go to the root of the disease and give proper treatment. In this government, if any minister has really bad image today of inaction, causing losses to the government through acts of commission and omission that is the Prime Minister himself," said Punj.

"So, if the Cabinet image has to improve through a reshuffle, then the Prime Minister first must get out of the government. And only then you can hope for some improvement in the image of the government," he added, while commenting on reports of a Cabinet reshuffle.

Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi earlier today met the Prime Minister at his official 7, Race Course Road residence here. He also met President Pranab Mukherjee earlier.

Speculation of an imminent Cabinet reshuffle gained fresh momentum yesterday following the meetings of Dr. Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi with President Mukherjee.

The meeting between Dr. Singh and Mukherjee lasted for almost one hour. However, there was no official word from Rashtrapati Bhawan as to what was discussed during the meeting.

There has been speculation about reshuffle in the Cabinet and filling up of berths in the ministries left vacant by the resignation of Trinamool Congress and DMK representatives.

According to certain media reports, the Cabinet reshuffle can take place on Friday or Saturday. (ANI)
