Cape Town, Oct 16 (ANI): Azhar Mahmood's all-round performance continued as Auckland Aces beat Kolkata Knight Riders Twenty20 Champions League.
Auckland restricted the 2012 Indian Premier League champions to 137-6 batting first at Newlands before chasing down that target with seven wickets and 14 balls to spare.
Mahmood, who helped Auckland in their second qualifying win over Hampshire last week, carried that form over as he helped to restrict the Knight Riders to a low total.
A 62-run partnership between Brendon McCullum (40 off 35 balls) and wicketkeeper Manvinder Bisla (38 off 24) had Kolkata poised for a big total at 72-1 in the ninth over, but the Aces then struck three times in the space of six balls and the Knight Riders never fully recovered.
Mahmood claimed two of those wickets, including the prized scalp of Jacques Kallis for a two-ball duck, and ended the innings with the outstanding figures of 3-16 from four overs.
Mahmood also contributed with the bat by scoring 51 from 42 balls, stuff.co.nz reports.
Auckland's second group match is against the Titans in Durban. (ANI)
