Mumbai, Oct 16 (IANS) New Zealand-based nanotechnology company Izon Science Tuesday gifted an instrument to accelerate advancement of research in nanoparticles for drug delivery to a professor from Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay, an official said.

A device was gifted to Rinti Banerjee from the department of biosciences and bioengineering, an official said.

The device provides the highly accurate information required to aid development of drug systems that could deliver cancer drugs directly to the tumour.

Drug delivery is the method or process of administering a pharmaceutical compound to achieve a therapeutic effect in humans or animals.

The device was presented to Banerjee by Hans van der Voorn, the executive chairman of Izon Science at a function held at IIT-Bombay and was attended by Hon Steven Joyce, New Zealand's science and innovation minister.

"It's great to see a New Zealand company helping researchers in India at the forefront of new research frontiers. New Zealand's focus on science and innovation is something we share with India," said Gavin Young, New Zealand's trade commissioner and consul general in Mumbai.
